WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:
JMEC was part of the design team for 3 sections of the Cypress Viaduct Replacement Project (Sections B, C & F), and have completed the analysis, design/check of PS&E under various contracts as described below. The bridge structures were designed following the Caltrans I880 Cypress Viaduct Replacement Project design criteria.
Section C included a $15 million viaduct section constructed of CIP post-tensioning box girder. JMEC was responsible for the independent check of PS&E (plans, specifications and estimates), and have completed the seismic analysis taking into considerations the structure interaction resulting from the steel frames of adjacent Contract D and the foundation flexibility. JMEC assisted in the coordination of interface details between Contracts C and D, and developed Standard Hinge Details for the concrete and steel girder interface.
To control the geometry of the viaduct due to time dependent displacement at the expansion joint, tie-downs were installed at the hinge locations until the adjacent steel girders were constructed.
